After a zionist smear campaign spearheaded by a crusading “journalist,” zionist and far-right hecklers flooded the online reviews of the cafe, started to file fake health department complaints and occasionally came in to antagonize the staff and customers.
Soon after, Israel lobbyist and propaganda machine, Anti-Defamation League, was alerted to the happenings and aided two such hecklers in filing lawsuits against the cafe based on fake allegations of antisemitic discrimination. This was followed up by the Anti-Defamation League and the Brandeis Center instigating a Department of Justice lawsuit against the cafe and owner.
While we don’t want to get too mired into this spectacle lawsuit, we do want to keep our supporters updated and informed about the court process.
Below you’ll find an updated timeline of the events, followed by a glossary of legal terms, since it’s a lot of jargon.
Glossary of Terms
Deposition: A deposition when the verbal statement of a witness is taken before trial and under oath. Depositions may be taken by expert witnesses or everyday people. The deposition is a part of the discovery stage of a trial and gives both sides a chance to gather information under oath before the trial begins.
During the deposition, each side can question the witness and the witness must answer truthfully or can be penalized for perjury. This part of the process gives both sides a better understanding of the case.
Discovery: Discovery is a pretrial phase. Attorneys exchange information and understand the strength of their position based on the other sides’ information. It allows them to better formulate their strategy for the trial. Discovery methods can include document requests, interrogations, and depositions.
