Although we are rallying around the defense of Jerusalem Coffee House, our brother who owns it, and the staff who work there, we recognize we are defending something much more than a business.
This is an attack on our community and on the third space where we gather as people of different faiths and experiences, where we create, support each other, make art, read, discuss, write, and teach each other, where we play chess, where we fall in love with Palestinian-inspired flavors in our coffee, where we are reminded to make salat in a small corner near the kitchen, where we freely discuss Islamic political thought, where we bring our elders and our children, where Muslims and those Muslim-adjacent share iftar during Ramadan, and where we build around our opposition to the ongoing genocide in Palestine and towards our collective liberation.
